Labor Day

amazing where has the summer gone?

Labor Day barbecue at the pool, please call for a reservation

Member Member tourney by far my favorite. Sign up on Foretees or the pro shop.  Ask around or the pro shop if you need a partner. The beauty of the event is that you meet and play against members not normally in your group. The shootout is very intense.

Schools open next week plus less daylight so be careful driving

Rosh Hashanah 2018

  • ends Tuesday, September 11
    • at nightfall

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger.  When you notice this, try not to yell at them.  Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is Roger Lesch.  Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Peggy.

When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Peggy to get a full-time job, along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed.

Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.  I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner.  I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table.

I generally have lunch each day in the Men's Grille at the Golf Club, so eating out is not an option in the evening.  I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door.  She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating.      But now, it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.  I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves.   I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done, before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think.  For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour.  But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement.  I tell her to stretch it out over two, or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much.  I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean).   I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods.  For example, she had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the front lawn.  I try not to make a scene.  I'm a fair man... I tell her to fix herself
a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while.   And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Peggy.  I'm not saying that showing this much patience & consideration is easy.   Many men will find it difficult.  Some will find it impossible !!!!   Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, if you even use just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile.    After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE:

Roger Lesch died suddenly on January 31, of a perforated rectum.

The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby.

His wife Peggy was arrested and charged with murder.  The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty  - -  accepting her defense that Roger, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

A hole in one, so to speak !!!!

July

Hip feeling good, still a little tenative slow steps and careful.

Back to playing bad golf

Fourth of July spent at belmar McKenzie house with Lisajoy and the kids. Visited uncle Jimmy. The picnic at Lowry house was very nice.

Chair yoga at evergreen shut down for the summer. They suggested the Port reading on Tuesday morning.

Exciting baseball couple of weeks for Jack and the Colonia all Star team. They won mayor's trophy with two consecutive wins over hopelawn. Jack was an offensive machine getting 9 hits over the two games plus starting the game ending double play. Followed by the winning of the Woodbridge tournament winning both games on a Tuesday night final against a very good Bayonne team.

Had to watch Sergio one day as he had to sit out a day for fistacuff. Went down for the talent show at CYO camp.

Geneen closed on there house in Colonia, hopefully the right move.

Cracked wisdom tooth waiting till after the cruise to get it pulled.

Thinking about using a trainer at retro, I need to build up my strength and stamina.

Romeo at d'talia always nice. Also had dinner with Gary and Linda.

Lobster steak member guest at MGCC food was great. Event was moving along until the sky opened up with five holes to play. Dr. Lucido was two over playing career round. Think the club screwed up by having the event. Cost was high and they knew that weather was an issue all week.

Indian night at MGCC this week sorry I am going to miss it. Hope it's a success
Sharon Smither retirement after 50 years at the club, good luck

Playing okay just not hitting the ball far, putting has been pretty good

Had to meet spinnello the plumber twice the past two weeks. Not sure the problem can be solved easily.

Tomorrow we go cruising

A husband reluctantly agreed to play in the couples' alternate shot Tournament at  his club.

He teed off on the first hole, a par four, and blistered a drive 300 yards down  the middle of the fairway.  Upon reaching the ball, the husband said to his wife, "Just hit it toward the green, anywhere around there will be fine."

The wife proceeded to shank the ball deep into the woods. Undaunted, the husband said "That's OK, Sweetheart" and  spent the full five  minutes looking for the ball. He found it just in time but in a horrible position.  He played the shot of his life to get the ball within two feet of the hole  He told his wife to knock the ball in.

His wife then proceeded to knock the ball off the green and into a bunker. Still maintaining composure, the husband summoned all of his skill and holed the shot from the bunker.

He took the ball out of the hole and, while walking off the green, put his arm   around his wife and calmly said,  "Honey, that was a bogey five and that's OK, but I think we can do better on the next hole".

To which she replied, "don't bitch at me,
Only 2 of those 5 shots were mine."

June

Busy month
Rehab three times a week. Think I am making decent progress.
Father's day was nice at springwood. Got to see herb and Sandy as well as the family.

The blessings of the vestments at St Anthony's was very nice and well attended. Going to the center bar was just a nice touch. Everyone relaxed and enjoyed one another.

Eric Cook's father passed.
Michelle staab's grandmother passed
Tracy's father passed that's three funerals this month

House is on the market, just hoping for the best

Can't believe geneen and Grant are moving back to Colonia. Will be easier for me to see their kids but the commute will suck.

Saw Dr closkey yesterday, said I can go play golf. Just start off slowly and build my self up. Went to galloping hills and hit a small bucket. No pain

June 29 played nine holes with Dr Yaremczak. All good so far. Then we went to Rossi's for a great hamburger. AP, doc, Frank fig and myself just enjoyed ourselves

Went to see Uncle Jimmy he seemed to be in good spirits.

The shore is nice but not for me.
Went to outlets with Joseph and Isabelle to buy a hat, never found a hat lol but bought the kids a few things

Saw Incredibles 2, not bad movie. Ate at Bobby flay's burgers. Really not bad excellent onion rings

June

Rehab at RWJohnsen Rahway so far so good. Two weeks into rehab. The theropist said he thinks I am doing well.

Adelina graduation from grammar school was so nice. She is a good kid. Says she wants to play golf, took her to galloping hills for a set of clubs. I will get her lessons too.

Father day this Sunday.
Nothing new on the house sale.

Went to dinner with Gary always fun. His mother is in her 90s. That's nice. I think he would move to Florida permanently if Linda would agree. He is a warm weather person.

Getting ichy to play golf just need to have the Dr say okay.

The other day I called CVS about two of my meds. They said that the Dr's office has not been responding. I said did you think to call me? Silence! They had the wrong fax number. It's amazing, this is for meds not a cup of coffee. Someone could have serious complications. I'm sorry just doesn't seem to be enough.

I met with my accountant and got my 2017 taxes done. I like ralph but I am not a big fan of his assistant. Lou just seems underwhelmed no sense of urgency.

Trip to India seems to be moving forward. Looking forward to it.

Have had a very bad run cards. Which leads to bad playing. I know it will change hopefully soon.

Father's Day weekend

Saturday watched Jack play baseball. He is a good player, great arm, speed and instincts hope he stays with the game.

Drove some of the girls from Miller's Ale house to Rahway as part of Isabelle's birthday party. Just so funny they sit at tables but all are constantly on their phones. Isabelle runs hot and cold she gets too confrontational with her mother. She should be smarter but still tries to win arguments

Father's Day at Springwood it was very nice a bit warm. As usual I over ate and felt crappy, I do know better. It is fun trying too be non political with Mrs. Kneller - think Sandy is really a Barry Sanders liberal but just can't say it.

As much as a pain that he can be I miss Joseph. A whole week without him is going to be rough.

GMK jr took some shot to break a tooth, he is a tough guy but it must have really hurt.

Hip

Went to Dr Closkey yesterday, he was happy with my progress. He suggested that I work with PT getting in and out of the car. He said healing was right on point.

Went to MGCC last night ( Wednesday). Lisajoy dropped me off and Poli brought me home. Just nice to be out with the guys

Sears at house cleaning carpets. Charging more than I expected but got to get it done.

Am driving about, with no particular place to go. Just nice to be free. Called rwjohnson rahway set up evaluation for out patient PT next Friday. Have one more session with Jessie next week.

I am so pleased with the frontal replacement, rehab is about 50% of the posterior.

Can't believe how big the Stafford Rd house is. We had so much stuff that the house seemed cramped.

Have a great memorial day weekend.
